Melissa Amrein, M. Ed., Ed.D – Founder / Superintendent

Melissa has over 30 years in public education. She chose to leave public education because she could not make “one size fits all” work! At the request of several parents, Melissa founded Skyward Academy as her answer to the many parents and children seeking new ideas, methodologies, and choices in meeting the needs of so many unique children. Skyward Academy is Melissa’s passion, and she has devoted her life every day to making a special place for special people to be successful. She began her career as a middle and high school math and language arts teacher, then moved on to become a K-12 guidance counselor, school building administrator, district personnel director, district instructional and curriculum supervisor, and district assistant superintendent. Much of her career has been spent developing programs for special needs students and parents.  Melissa is certified as a teacher and administrator in Ohio and Kentucky. She has tutored in Barton reading, Orton-Gillingham, multi-sensory math and writing, and more. She is especially interested in promoting the use of technology both as a teaching tool and the teaching of students to use technology to their best advantage. She studies brain fitness and research. Melissa enjoys watching a student who has struggled in the past finally be successful. When she is not at Skyward, you will find Melissa riding her motorcycle to the dance floor, teaching Ballroom Dancing and Dance Fitness to people of all ages.

 

Skyward employees are all licensed professionals.  Our teachers hold Ohio licensure in the fields that they teach, both content areas and in intervention.  Our therapists hold appropriate licensure and certifications in their field.  Our assistants are currently all licensed teachers or college graduates!  Most of all, our staff is at Skyward because they want to be.  They enjoy working with our children, and are passionate about doing the best they can each and every day for them!
